An overnight ferry ride brought us to Salerno, then on to Amalfi for three days of precipitous touring.

The ferry pulled into Salerno at about 9:00 am. A longer-than-planned city bus ride connected us with the bus to Amalfi.

We stayed at Hotel La Ninfa, a charming little hotel perched on the edge of a cliff. This is the view from our room.

The hotel's private beach was right under our room. About 250 feet straight down.

Here's Hotel Santa Caterina (five stars!) just down the road. They have an elevator down to their waterside pool deck.

Amalfi's Byzantine/Arabic/Norman/Catholic cathedral. It's a walk-up.

What can I say?

Raina's lovely feet, taking a break.

We took a thrilling bus ride to the exceptionally trendy town of Positano.

Another photographer had framed up this shot for his wife. We took their picture; then they took ours.

Lunch in Positano. Shade, a cool breeze, and colorful glassware.

The beach in Positano. The Life is Tough Club is now in session.

We took a boat back to Amalfi. Here's another hotel from the water. Exceptionally well defended from marine attack.

The boat ride featured an impromptu opera performance by an enthusiastic passenger.

The white building in the center is Hotel La Ninfa. There are stairs down to the beach.

For our last night's dinner we took the bus up to the town of Pogerola. This is the view from the restaurant across the valley to the town of Ravello.

Before we leave, one last shot of Amalfi.

On our way back to Rome from Amalfi we visited Pompeii. Armed with an almost up-to-date copy of Rick Steves Italy, one can almost find one's way around.
